Simple Changes to Update Your Front Porch for Spring

Ever since I started my 52 Weeks of Wonder Challenge I have found myself obsessed with minimizing and making my space welcoming and simple. This week, with the sunshine trying to peek through in Minnesota, I focused on our front porch.

Step 1: Evaluate

How do I want this space to look? Color theme? Plants? How much decor? Uh, decisions on decorating are not my strong suit. I am going for simple lately so I knew I wanted it to be inviting and clean. After setting a timer for 20 minutes and doing some searching on Pinterest I found some inspiration and came up with a plan.

Step 2: Clean Up

The first step in clean up was to repaint the front door. Our old dog would always scratch at the door to get in leaving a white mark through the paint. I decided to stick with the same color and just touch it up along with the frame of the door. After some quick sanding, we painted the door and frame to give it a fresh clean look.

Step 3: Decorate

After the painting, I needed to upgrade the windows! I used this window film to update the windows around my front door and add a stained glass look to them. I LOVE it! It adds just a touch of color and keeps the glass looking clean. Plus it was easy to install.

Next, I needed to make the space inviting. New planters were required to add some greenery around the door. I went to my local Farm Supply store and found some awesome galvanized metal planters. I added some grasses to the planters next to the door and then bought some lavender for between our chairs. The lavender smells awesome and I will be adding lavender to other areas soon!

Next, I found a new doormat that says “Oh, Hello” on Amazon. I love it! It is so simple, cute, and welcoming. I layered it with a simple black mat because when I started searching front porch on Pinterest I learned that layering mats were all the rage. And I am all about trying new things so I went for it:)

Now we have this new welcoming front porch! I love the idea of someone walking up to our front door and feeling welcomed! It also feels great to have it nice and clean. Now if I could only get the weather to cooperate!
